US SLANG RELATED TO FOOD

  •  Grub: food. e.g. Are you hungry? Let’s grab some grub!
  •  Cup O’ Joe: coffee. e.g. I have to have a cup o’ Joe in morning or I’ll get so sleepy for my morning class.
  • Grinder: long sandwich. e.g. Haven you tried the new fish grinder? It’s my Mom’s favorite.
  • Lay off: stop eating so much food. e.g. My boyfriend is gaining weight. Guess he should lay off the fast food.
  • Veggie: vegetable. e.g. Gerard really loves veggie burger. I told him to be a vegetarian.
  • Wolf down: to eat very quickly. e.g. Ray wolfed down five burgers and still asked his mother to buy him more.
  •  Have a bite: taste the food. e.g. The spaghetti is so delicious. Have a bite, Mike.
  • Grab a bite to eat: get something to eat. e.g. Why don’t we grab a bite to eat on our way home? I’m so hungry.
